The girgentana goat breed takes its name from “Girgenti”, the ancient name of the city of Agrigento (Sicily). This goat is indigenous to Sicily, where it is particularly widespread. Its distinctive characteristic are the horns, very long and twisted into a spiral form. The fleece and horns remind the Asian populations, which still live in the wild, and the girgentana’ origins should be searched among the goats of the afghan part of the Tibetan land. It is a good producer of milk.
